Automotive Engine Parts Supplier

Every vehicle is now held to increasingly high standards: greater efficiency, lower maintenance, a quieter engine, improved fuel economy, and a smoother ride. The only way to meet these expectations is to make sure that every engine part and powertrain component precisely meets your specifications.

Systrand has 40+ years of precision machining experience. We’ve spent the last decade focused on high-volume, high-precision gears and shafts, embracing a highly flexible production process that can reliably deliver parts, housings, and engine blocks with exceedingly tight bore tolerance and fine surface finishes.

But any good engine parts manufacturer knows that, in the real world, a part can match the specification well within threshold tolerance and still leave room for improvement. That’s why Systrand has steadily invested in proven production quality systems that proactively identify possible failure modes at the component level— uncovering issues that previously could not be detected prior to assembly. This engine part testing uses simulated loads to mimic the stresses placed on a component at the system level, which helps us isolate issues before parts are shipped to the OEM, let alone make their way into an engine.

Systrand has the equipment and expertise to produce a wide variety of engine and drivetrain parts. We supply complex housings and finished assemblies ready for installation. Products such as balance shaft housings (which require multiple machining and assembly operations) illustrate our ability to manufacture a complex finished product. With our large envelope milling equipment and the flexibility of our palletized part handling system, we can competitively produce “super cubed” or finished engine blocks and cylinder heads. We have the turning, grinding, polishing, and gear expertise to manufacture the most demanding shafts, including those with a variety of integrated gears and splines.

Automotive Engine Parts: Design for Manufacturability

We’ve been in high-volume precision manufacturing since 1982. We know how to take an existing part design and find ways to improve not just its performance, but its manufacturability. By working collaboratively with OEMs, we can reduce direct costs, simplify assembly, improve durability, and help eliminate issues with vibration, noise, and handling.

Over the course of the last 40 years, high-performance gears and gear testing have become increasingly important to the automotive industry—and to us. For the last decade, we’ve lived and breathed the NVH standards and requirements. We were among the first U.S. manufacturers to supply high-precision hybrid and electric powertrain parts. Today we have millions of hybrid and electric vehicle parts. More importantly, we have the tools and processes in place to ensure that our engine parts perform to ever higher standards.

Our production and design teams benefit from the latest CAD/CAM software; 3D modeling; modern, flexible, and scalable CNC-based and manual machines; and performance-accelerating Zeiss coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs). Our internal tool room department can expedite any part-specific machining work we need to compress timing. In our metrics and results driven production environment production, we can include an advanced 100% noise signature analysis on critical components, capable of isolating ghost order noise and other extremely subtle sources of unwanted vibration.

Our Commitment to Quality

“Quality” isn’t just something for the Quality Department to worry about. It’s a commitment threaded through every office and workstation. At Systrand, we are a tier 1 supplier with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certifications. Our quality systems, processes, and entire organization are committed to ensuring quality for our customers.

Over four decades, we’ve invested and reinvested in the tools and talent that are vital to our customers’ success. That includes a world class operating system of monitored performance and a structured approach to problem solving proven to ensure reliable manufacturing.

These are metrics/results driven systems, built on Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodology, and take into account activity-based costing and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while maintaining low- to zero PPM. Those systems form a foundation from which we can pursue continuous improvements and cost savings for our customers.
