Electric & Hybrid Vehicle E-Powertrain Components
The rise of hybrid and electric vehicles has fundamentally changed what people expect from a vehicle. Even traditional internal combustion engine vehicles are held to increasingly high standards for greater efficiency, lower maintenance, a quieter engine, improved fuel economy, and a smoother ride.
That means making a better powertrain. Automotive manufacturers increasingly need high-precision, high-performance gears and shafts with ever lower NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) signatures for both standard powertrains and e-powertrains.
Systrand is an established industry leader in producing hybrid and EV powertrain components because we have the experience, processes, and testing capabilities to meet (and exceed) those demands. High precision, tight tolerance automotive manufacturing is where we thrive.
Systrand has produced components for every vehicle type, and was among the first U.S. organizations to supply high-precision gears for hybrid vehicles and EVs. In the past ten years we’ve manufactured the full range of components for hybrid and EV drive systems: powertrain components, transmission components, electric motor components, driveline components, shafts, gears, covers, hubs, complete assemblies, and more.
Lots of suppliers are eager to jump into the electric powertrain market. We’ve already been here for over a decade.
Electric & Hybrid Vehicle E-Powertrain Design for Manufacturability
BEV OEMs need to carefully balance cost and performance demands, regardless of powertrain type. With an e-powertrain, the stakes are even higher.
Systrand is uniquely suited to help. We live and breathe the NVH standards and requirements, and have more than one million EV gears in the field today. We have the recipe to assure our gears and other powertrain components will perform to these high standards. That includes an advanced 100% noise signature analysis on all NVH critical components, capable of isolating “ghost order” noise and other extremely subtle sources of vibration energy.
Most importantly, Systrand isn’t limited to “manufacture-to-print” relationships, churning out whatever design we’re sent. We’re deeply invested in a complete collaborative process that results in components that are easier to manufacture and result in a better vehicle at a lower cost.
Our in-house team of manufacturing engineers has decades of experience. They work collaboratively with customers to optimize designs for manufacturability and overall performance. This can be as simple as making a few adjustments that remove weight, reduce complexity, or take better advantage of a given manufacturing process. When we collaborate with an automotive supplier or manufacturer the goal is to find every opportunity to increase component functionality, improve fuel efficiency or range, reduce vehicle noise, reduce cost and increase durability.
Our Commitment to Quality
“Quality” isn’t just something for the Quality Department to worry about. It’s a commitment threaded through every office and workstation. At Systrand, we are a tier 1 supplier with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certifications. Our quality systems, processes, and entire organization are committed to ensuring quality for our customers.
Over four decades, we’ve invested and reinvested in the tools and talent that are vital to our customers’ success. That includes a world class operating system of monitored performance and a structured approach to problem solving proven to ensure reliable manufacturing.
These are metrics/results driven systems, built on Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodology, and take into account activity-based costing and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while maintaining low- to zero PPM. Those systems form a foundation from which we can pursue continuous improvements and cost savings for our customers.
