Manufacturing Complex Shaft Components
Systrand has more than 40 years of turning, cylindrical grinding, ID/OD grinding, milling, drilling, polishing, and gear expertise. We are fully capable of manufacturing even the most demanding shaft designs at production volumes with precision and high-quality surface finish accuracy. We regularly use our equipment and experience to manufacture shafts with a variety of integrated gears, splines, and other complex features. This includes rolled spline options (to produce highly precise splines). We can even accommodate thin-walled spline designs, using a variety of steps to incorporate spline rolling into the manufacturing process.
We’re also adept at manufacturing complex components, especially in automotive applications. We can produce complex shafts in carbon steels, low-alloy steels, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Most importantly, we can apply our experience and expertise to take your existing shaft design to the next level. Our engineering teams regularly find ways to improve both a shaft’s performance and its manufacturability. This collaborative process can reduce direct costs, simplify assembly, improve durability, and help eliminate issues with vibration, noise, and handling.
Bringing You the Benefits of Decades of Precision Manufacturing Experience
Since 1982, Systrand has specialized in precision shaft machining and component manufacturing. As industry demand for great precision and tighter tolerances and improved performance has grown, we’ve grown right alongside.
For the last decade, we’ve lived and breathed the NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) standards and requirements. We were among the first U.S. manufacturers to supply high-precision hybrid and electric gears and shafts. Today, we have millions of hybrid and electric vehicle components in the field. More importantly, we have the tools and processes in place to ensure that our gears and shafts perform to ever higher standards.
Our production and design teams benefit from the latest CAD/CAM software; 3D modeling; modern, flexible, and scalable CNC-based and manual machines; and performance-accelerating Zeiss coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs). Our internal tool room department can expedite any part-specific machining work we need to compress timing. In production, we can include an advanced 100% noise signature analysis on critical components, capable of isolating ghost order noise and other extremely subtle sources of unwanted vibration.
Built into our process is continuous data gathering and trend analysis. This is used to constantly improve our processes and products, allowing us to rapidly and reliably develop solutions, confident that our shafts will meet your requirements.
Our Commitment to Quality
“Quality” isn’t just something for the Quality Department to worry about. It’s a commitment threaded through every office and workstation. At Systrand, we are a tier 1 supplier with IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certifications. Our quality systems, processes, and entire organization are committed to ensuring quality for our customers.
Over four decades, we’ve invested and reinvested in the tools and talent that are vital to our customers’ success. That includes a world class operating system of monitored performance and a structured approach to problem solving proven to ensure reliable manufacturing.
These are metrics/results driven systems, built on Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodology, and take into account activity-based costing and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while maintaining low- to zero PPM. Those systems form a foundation from which we can pursue continuous improvements and cost savings for our customers.
